NCC Okays Taiwan's First 4G Frequency Band Transaction
January 08, 2015

NCC (National Communication Commission) has approved the deal in which Ambit Microsystems, a Foxconn subsidiary, will sell a 5 MHz spectrum block in 700 MHz band to Taiwan Mobile for NT$3.43 billion (US$107.1 million; US$1 = NT$32.013), reported the Commercial Times on January 7. The deal is dated back to September 2014 when the two companies reached a cross-holding agreement. After the transaction, Ambit Microsystem (together with Asia Pacific Telecom) will have 25 MHz block while Taiwan Mobile will own 35 MHz spectrum—tied with the current market leader Chunghwa Telecom. Meanwhile, the merger of Ambit Microsystems with Asia Pacific Telecom is under review, said NCC.
